Wood is often compared to laminate, but can we really compare them?

No, even though wood has made progress in terms of its reaction to infection-causing pathogens, its porous surface makes it unsuitable for use in high-risk environments. In contrast, Polyrey laminate with a non-porous surface resists disinfection protocols and performs well in a multitude of tests. Its antibacterial treatment makes it a complete product in the face of a growing bacterial threat.

Is laminate fungicidal?

No, the product does not contain active ingredients that stop the growth of mould, which feeds on the organic matter it finds. However, its non-porous surface minimises the risk of mould growth. What's more, unlike wood, it is not a source of nutrients for moulds and fungi.

Do I have to pay extra to order Polyrey antibacterial products?

No. For over 15 years,  and because surface hygiene has always been a priority for Polyrey, all Polyrey products are antibacterial* at no extra cost. They are made available under standard conditions: without delay, with no minimum quantity.

*Excluding Touch, PurMetal® and Panométal® finishes. Touch structures have inherent antibacterial properties, so antibacterial treatment is not necessary.

Is Polyrey antibacterial safe for users?

Yes. With no nanoparticles, the active biocidal substance incorporated into the material is not soluble, does not migrate, has no allergenic or respiratory effects, and poses no risk to humans or the environment*.

*The antibacterial treatment contains a biocidal product with an active substance: silver phosphoborate glass. This substance is not affected by REACH restrictions, as we ensure that our suppliers do not use any hazardous substances. REACH is a European system for the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals.

Should antibacterial products be reprocessed after a certain period of time?

No. Incorporated into the material to guarantee antibacterial protection throughout its lifetime, the antibacterial additive provides permanent protection that actively controls germs 24 hours a day. A technological innovation that Polyrey has been able to achieve thanks to an integrated manufacturing process, including the production of its own resins.

Are antibacterial products suitable for wet areas?

Yes. Incorporated into the material to guarantee antibacterial protection throughout its lifetime, the antibacterial additive provides permanent protection, even during prolonged exposure to water. For example, Polyrey HPL Compact Laminate is widely used for sanitary cubicle and locker applications in wet environments.

Are the antibacterial products used by Polyrey suitable for food contact?

Yes. Polyrey has a test report validating its use in contact with food, produced by an independent laboratory. Polyrey decorative panels are widely used for applications in contact with foodstuffs, such as worktops, tables, etc. ....

Is the antibacterial agent used by Polyrey considered a chemical product?

Yes. The antibacterial agent contains a biocidal product with an active substance: silver phosphoborate glass. This substance is not affected by REACH restrictions, as we ensure that our suppliers do not use any hazardous substances. REACH is a European system for the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals. Antibacterial products are suitable for food contact and skin contact and present no risk to humans or the environment.

How does the treatment work on bacteria?

Embedded in the material, silver ions encapsulated in glass beads are activated by contact with ambient humidity. They neutralise surface bacteria and block cell division, thereby limiting bacterial proliferation.

Do I need to clean the surface to activate antibacterial protection?

No. Silver ions encapsulated in glass beads are incorporated into the material and activated by contact with ambient humidity. They are active 24 hours a day.

Can the antibacterial agent used by Polyrey lead to bacterial resistance?

No.  To date, no bacterial resistance to silver has been observed in the everyday environment, even though silver has been used as an antibacterial agent for over two thousand years.

Does the antibacterial agent used by Polyrey contain nanoparticles?

No. The antibacterial is not based on nanotechnology and contains no nanoparticles.

In addition, an independent institute (‘Generic Latex Measure’) has certified that the particle size of silver technology is outside the nanometric range. Polyrey has a certificate of conformity.

Is the antibacterial agent used by Polyrey resistant to cleaning protocols?
