• Wood is often compared with laminate, but are they really comparable?

No, Even though wood, these days, is more resistant to infection-causing pathogens, its porous surface makes it unsuitable for use in high-risk environments. The surface of Polyrey HPL, on the other hand, is non-porous and can therefore withstand disinfection, as evidenced by many conformity tests. The addition of the antibacterial Sanitized® treatment makes it a complete product in terms of dealing with the growing threat posed by bacteria.

• Is HPL fungicidal?

No, the product does not contain active ingredients to prevent the growth of moulds, which feed on whatever organic matter they find. However, its non-porous surface does help minimise the risk of moulds developing. Moreover, unlike wood, it is not a source of nutrients for mould and fungi.

• Do I need to pay extra for antibacterial Polyrey products?

No, Because surface cleanliness has always been a priority for us, for more than a decade Polyrey's products have been antibacterial* at no extra charge. They are sold according to the usual conditions without any additional deadlines or minimum orders.

• Is the Sanitized® antibacterial treatment safe for users?

Yes, It contains no nanoparticles, and the Ag+ ions the material contains are insoluble, non-allergenic and do not migrate. They have no effect on the respiratory system and are wholly safe for humans and the environment*.

*The Sanitized® treatment contains a biocide based on an active substance called phosphate glass. This substance is not concerned by the REACH requirements, since we ensure that our suppliers only use substances that are safe. REACH is a European regulation on registering, evaluating and authorising chemicals.

• Do antibacterial products need to be re-treated after a certain period?

No, The Sanitized® additive and its Ag+ ions are incorporated into the material to guarantee antibacterial protection throughout its lifespan, thus providing permanent protection that ensures active, durable germ control 24 hours a day. Polyrey succeeded in developing this technological innovation through its integrated manufacturing process, which includes manufacturing its own resins.

• Are antibacterial products suited to high-humidity areas?

Yes, The Ag+ Sanitized® additive is incorporated into the material to guarantee antibacterial protection throughout its lifespan, thus providing permanent protection even after prolonged exposure to moisture. For example, Polyrey's compact HPL range is widely used for cubicles and lockers in high-humidity environments.

• Are Sanitized® antibacterial products food-safe?

Yes, Polyrey has reports on tests conducted by an independent laboratory that confirm them to be food-safe. Polyrey's decorative panels are widely used in applications involving contact with food such as worktops and tables.

• Is the Sanitized® antibacterial agent considered a chemical substance?

The silver ions are encased in glass microbeads and incorporated into the material. They are activated on contact with ambient humidity. They then neutralise surface bacteria and block cell division, thereby limiting bacterial proliferation.

• Do the surfaces need to be cleaned to activate the antibacterial protection?

• Could the Sanitized® antibacterial treatment lead to bacterial resistance?

No, To date, no bacterial resistance to silver has been observed in our daily environment even though silver has been used as an antibacterial agent for more than 2,000 years.

• Does the Sanitized® antibacterial treatment contain nanoparticles?

No, The silver-containing Sanitized® antibacterial treatment is not based on nanotechnology and does not contain any nanoparticles.

Furthermore, an independent institute, Generic Latex Mesure, has certified that the particles used in the Sanitized® silver technology are not small enough to be considered nanometric. Polyrey can provide a certificate of conformity.

• Does the Sanitized® antibacterial treatment stand up to cleaning protocols?
